After suffering years of physical and mental abuse by her father, Susan Hathaway grew up knowing monsters were real. But nothing could have prepared her for the devastating murder of her mother at the hands of her father when she was fourteen. In the wake of tragic loss, separation from her siblings, depression, anxiety, PTSD and countless emotional trials in the aftermath, Susan discovers the inner strength to ultimately be a survivor. In this memoir, she takes the reader on a visceral journey of growing up a victim and reveals what it took to build a life of positivity and courage. Harnessing the light of her mother’s memory and her grandparents’ wisdom, she faces down her demons and overcomes seemingly insurmountable odds to never let hate win, and to let her mother’s light shine on in her.
